Ken Poorman Politics . . .
|
|
I like Democrats, I like Republicans, I like Independents, I like Liberterians, & I LOVE the Tea Party! I'm not nuts about Commies or Pinkos!

I first registered to vote when I was 18 and started out a Democrat. In the beginning I was a blue collar kind
of guy, enlisted type in the service, then a production worker at Piper Aircraft, climbing poles at Bell Telephone, playing
in club bands, etc. I belonged to three unions, Aircraft Workers, Federation of Musicians, and the FTWP.
So I'm thinking the Demos were for the working man, equal wages, benefits, etc. Then I took a course called "Action
People in Politics, and learned more about what each party stood for. I had to rethink my position. In my mind,
it boiled down to Demos spent more government money on social programs, which raised taxes on the working man - and Republicans
were more fiscally conservative and held taxes down. I thought back to my family life, and knew that when money was
tight we had to curtail spending, and when it loosened up a little, first priority was to save for a rainy day, not spending
sprees. My Dad and Mom paid cash for everything, or went without. They never owned a credit card, or owed a nickel
to anyone. So I re-registered Republican. I have friends of all parties, Reps, Dems, Indy's, Liberterians, and
even a couple John Birchers. And neither politics or religion has ever affected our relationships negatively.
If anything, it was a source of friendly teasing and conversation.
But my bottom line is, the only
proper way for government to act financially, is just like we always had to manage our family financies, i.e. when
things get tight, you have to curtail spending, NOT BORROW OR INCREASE IT!
Needless to say, I do not agree one
iota with any of the bailouts or borrowing that took place in 2009! You either reap the rewards for
your choices and actions, or pay the consequences (and hopefully learn from it)!

Let's see . . . I liked Ike, saw him on a train once when I was a kid (but what do kids know?); I liked Kennedy,
and saw him on his inaguration day when I was in the Navy ("Ask not what your Country can do for you, ask what you can
do for your Country."); I especially liked Barry Goldwater, and wish he had won the Presidency (flat tax); I
liked Nixon, and met him in the Whilte House in 1971 (negative income tax); I didn't like Reagan for rushing us
into the "world economy"; nor any President since him for failing to enforce our balance of trade agreements (Well,
maybe Reagan had "Welfare to Work" right). I like John McCain & Sarah Palin. So I guess I'm a conservative.
I hope Sarah Palin is our next President (PS: Governor Palin knows how to get us free from purchasing oil from
"overseas." - - - DRILL BABY DRILL!)
PS: The world will end when God wants it to. (Yes GOD, oh,
isn't that politically correct either?)

Some of my favorite political stuff . . .

I know . . . you probably think I voted a straight ticket . . . (Was it because I was only in the voting booth for
three seconds?)

Well, I guess it all comes down to Religion and Politics in the end, which for me is coming on fast. Religion because
I'm on my way out and finally need to face the music; and politics because I won't be here to help my granddaughters
cope when a certain foreign government forcloses on our bail-out loans, and my grandkids have to pay the piper.
Life sucks, and then you die.
PS: Sarah, I am enjoying "Going Rogue." My wife and granddaughters gave it to me for Christmas. While it's an easy read, I'm a little slow getting
through it because I only have time to read while on the Throne. (Took me even longer to read "Bold Fresh.")
