Ken Poorman's Lineage

The Hall-Wertz Cemetery

Some immediate family info:

Dad's first wife was Ina Mae Swartz.  They were married by Rev. A. K. Flora in Cumberland MD on 6 November 1934.  He was 21, she was 20.  I think she was a waitress at my Uncle Bill's Town Tavern on Mill Street at the time.  Mae Poorman divorced Dad on 29 June 1938 in Clinton County, Pa.  No children that I know of . . .

Dad's second wife, my Mom, Pearl Hall Poorman from Renovo.  They married on 16 June 1941.  Dad died on 4 December 1972, and Mom died on 5 February 1976.  Bummer.

Aunt Belle's HS Diploma - 1931

On Easter, April 10, 1977, when I lived in Altoona PA, I sent a letter to Aunt Belle with her original Renovo High School Diploma enclosed, which I had found in Mom’s papers after she died.  I thanked Aunt Belle for the flowers she had sent recently, and asked about Uncle Val.  I told her that Steve and Corrine were having Easter dinner with us today.  I also told her that two years ago, I had met and talked with Dr. Margaret Mercer, who is one of the signers of Aunt Belle's diploma.  Dr. Mercer was retired then, and living in Lock Haven.  She had retired as a Department Head at Lock Haven State College, now Lock Haven University.  She remembered Aunt Emma and Aunt Belle, and she said she remembered Mom’s (Pearl’s) beautiful red hair.  Subsequently, Aunt Bell returned the diploma to me, thanking me for the thoughtfulness, and asked me to keep it with our family papers.  Yesterday I had it scanned so we can add it to our digital scrapbook.  I think I'll link it to our Hall-Wertz Family in Cyberspace, thanks to our cousin and Hall Family Historian, Doug Humes.
