JOHN LUTHER DOWNS Jr. was born on 9/1/1846 in Dublin Ireland, and he died on 12/29/1909
in Newark Delaware. Don't have any genealogy on his family. The Downs lived in Austin PA, then in Cammal (McHenry Twp) PA, which is where I remember them living last. John L. Downs married MATILDA FLORENCE WERTZ, who was born on 3/7/1852, and died on 8/27/1901, and was buried in Cammal, Pennsylvania. Her parents were
John W. Wertz and Phoebe Ann Hall Wertz from Halls Run, Renovo PA area.

PA) - I met Muriel and Tei once... Mom corresponded with them a lot...

Ok, I think I'd better explain some of this name change thing. My Grandmother's real name was Anna Althea
Downs (Hall) - but she used the name Alice T. Downs (Hall). She used Alice because she didn't like Anna (and she
had an Aunt Alice T. too, which adds to the confusion). Her "T." stood for "Thea" which she
used because she didn't like Althea. I think this was common in the family, i.e. her Aunt Emma went by her middle name,
Pearl, and her Aunt Flora sometimes went by her middle name, Belle, and sometimes by Florabelle, her Aunt Mary
went by "Lottie." ??? Go figure . . .

Aunt Flora Belle . . .

My grandma Alice Downs Hall had two
sisters, Great Aunt Pearl (quite excentric) and Great Aunt Belle. I met them both at their homes in San Francisco. I
think Great Aunt Florabelle, they called her Aunt Belle, was pretty. She had a friendly personality, I've been
to her home in San Francisco a couple times. Her husband was Dr. Bunny Sinnigan. He graduated from Jefferson Medical
in Philadelphia, and practiced and lived on Park Avenue in Manhattan, before they moved to San Francisco, California.
I never met him.

FLORABELLE DOWNS SINNIGAN Dr. Sinnigan was a Rosicrucian (AMORC). I wanted some of his books when Aunt Florabelle died, but Aunt Belle DeFilippo, Mom's sister, wouldn't
give them to me. I think she destroyed them. You had to know Aunt Belle DeFilippo. I do have a book from
Aunt Florabelle though. I'll have to look it up. It had her address written in it, I think it was 57 Park Avenue
NYC.
